The TNPSC DEO recruitment exam is held every year, and the schedule of the exam for 2020 will be announced soon. The application process starts at least 60 days before the examination. The complete application process is online, from the submission of certificates to the payment of application fees. Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) holds exams all year round for the testing and selection of deserving candidates at various posts and jobs that are available in different government departments. There are approximately 20 vacancies of District Educational Officers available in the districts of Tamil Nadu. TNPSC DEO Recruitment 2020 - Apply Online

If you are qualified for the job of District Educational Officer and you wish to give the exam, then you can apply online once the portals are opened. The date of the Online Application Process will be released soon, and the whole process usually lasts for a month. One must have the means to pay the application fee through online mode with net banking, online wallet, or UPI. Also, one should arrange and ready their documents such as mark sheets, certificates, identity proof, etc. for a smooth and seamless process of application for TNPSC DEO Recruitment.

How to apply online for TNPSC DEO 2020 exam?

Once the dates of the application process are announced, and the portal is opened, you will be required to fill the application form correctly and promptly. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to apply online for the TNPSC DEO exam. Remember to check the stability of your internet connection. It should not lag as that would create a problem during the online payment process. Also, refrain from using your mobile phones for filling the form.

  1. Go to the Commission's website or
  2. The first mandatory process is to apply for One Time Registration or OTR. One has to register for the TNPSC database before applying for any exam. For OTR, one has to submit a one-time fee of 150 Rs. The Registration ID is valid for the next 5 years.
  3. Once you have your unique ID and password, go to the Apply section of the website.
  4. Search for TNPSC DEO Recruitment 2020.
  5. Fill the form correctly and submit all the documents such as Photo ID, qualifications certificates, disability certificates (if applicable), caste certificate (if applicable), etc.
  6. Recheck the form in case of any error or spelling mistake. Agree to the conditions and proceed to online payment.
  7. Pay the application fee through any means that is desirable to the applicant.
  8. Once the payment is complete, print your application form and keep it safe for future reference.

TNPSC DEO Mode of Payment

  • Preliminary Examination fee of Rs.100/- (Rupees one hundred only) is payable online through Net Banking / Credit card / Debit card or it can be paid offline at the State Bank of India / Indian Bank within two days from the date of submission of online application by choosing the option in the online application.
  • Applicants have also to pay the service charges as applicable.
  • Offline mode of payment in the form of demand draft / postal order etc. will not be accepted and the applications forwarded with such modes of payment will be summarily rejected.

TNPSC DEO Recruitment 2020 Application Fee

If the applicant is not registered before applying for the exam, they must pay a sum of 150 Rs for getting their Registration ID. For the prelims, one has to pay 100 Rs during when they apply online.

If a candidate is selected for mains, then they have to submit a fee of 200 Rs to appear in the exam.

Following categories are exempted from the application fee:

  • Scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
  • Differently abled persons with 40% disability.
  • Destitute widows
  • Most backward castes, backward classes, and denotified communities.

Selection Process for TNPSC DEO Recruitment 2020

The exam is held in three stages.

Preliminary Stage:

The paper is based on general awareness and is in the format of multiple type questions, with 150 questions based on general knowledge and 50 based on mental ability. The paper is of 300 marks.

Mains exam:

The exam is divided into three papers. Paper-I is based on general awareness and is a descriptive paper. Paper-II, also descriptive, is based on current affairs and general knowledge. The third paper, paper III is objective type and is based on the course of B.Ed degree. Each paper is of 300 marks.


The next and final stage is an interview, which holds 120 marks and is an oral exam in the form of an interview.

When a candidate clears all the three stages with flying colors, they are recruited at the post of DEO.

Certificates needed for TNPSC DEO candidate verification post selection

Once a candidate is selected, they are called for verification of their certificates. One must, therefore, keep the following certificates ready and prepared:

  • Residential Certificate
  • Aadhar ID or any other ID with a photograph.
  • Educational certificates such as mark sheets and degree certificates.
  • Birth Certificate
  • In case the applicant is already employed somewhere, then a No Objection Certificate from the employer.
  • An unemployment certificate (if applicable).

Eligibility Criteria for TNPSC DEO Recruitment 2020

The eligibility criteria for the applicants who aim to be at the post of District Educational Officer in the state of Tamil Nadu is as follows:


  • The maximum limit for general category candidates is 30 years. A candidate who has crossed 30 years will be deemed ineligible.
  • There are some relaxations that are given which have been mentioned below.



SC, ST, BC, Destitute widows

Teachers in Higher Secondary or Aided Secondary schools

The maximum limit for 40 years and the rest

Differently Abled Persons

Differently, Abled Persons are eligible for age concession up to 10 years over and above the maximum age limit prescribed.


  • The maximum age limit for ex-servicemen is 48 years.
  • The above-mentioned age concession will not apply to the ex-servicemen applicants who have already been recruited to any class or service or category.

Educational Qualification:

  • The minimum educational qualification is Masters in any subject with not less than 50% of Marks along with B.Ed or any equivalent degree from a recognized university in India.
  • Must have studied Tamil under Part-I or Part-II of the Intermediate or Pre-University course or Higher Secondary Course 

Others” Candidates not belonging to SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BCs, BCMs who have put in five years and more of service in the State/Central Government are not eligible even if they are within the age limit

TNPSC DEOExperience Criteria

After acquiring B.T. or B.Ed. Degree a candidate should have a total period of not less than 12 years of teaching experience in a recognized School. This criteria is applicable for recruitment to the vacancies which are to be filled for recognized Aided Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools.

Applicants selected for appointment to the post will be required to produce a certificate of physical fitness in the form prescribed below:
