UPSC IES Apply Online 2022

The candidates must apply for the UPSC IES exam by submitting the online applications using the online portal of the commission. The steps to do so are as follows.

UPSC IES Selection Process 2022

The selection for the said recruitment will take place in three stages. The candidates clearing the prelims exam will appear for the mains exam. The number of candidates equal to six to seven times the total approximate vacancies will write the mains exam. The candidates will further appear for the personality test if they clear the mains exam. The overall process of selection is as follows.

  • Stage I Preliminary Exam
  • Stage II Main Exam
  • Stage III Personality Test

UPSC IES Eligibility 2022

A. Nationality

The applicant must mandatorily be a citizen of India. Those candidates who do not satisfy this criterion can be considered eligible if he/she is:

  • Subjects or Nepal or Bhutan
  • Tibetan Refugee (settled in India since 01st January 1962)
  • An Indian Origin person settled permanently in India migrated from countries like :
    • Pakistan
    • Burma
    • Sri Lanka
    • Vietnam
    • East Africa Countries ( Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zaire and the United Republic of Tanzania)

B. Age Limit

The age of the applicant must be between,

  • Minimum Age - 21 years
  • Maximum Age - 30 years
  • In other words, the candidates should have been born not earlier than 2nd January 1992 and not later than 1st January 2001.
  • The cut-off date will be 01st January 2022.

C. Educational Qualification

  • A degree in Engineering from a government recognized institution (Indian or foreign)
  • Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India); or
  • Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or
  • Passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or
  • Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London

D. Physical Criteria

Medical Examination

  • Candidates finally selected by the Commission on the basis of Engineering Services Examination, 2021 shall be required to undergo a medical examination. 
  • Every candidate, on being finally selected by Commission will be required to undergo a medical examination as and when so decided by the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) irrespective of the fact that he/she has appeared for such medical examination in the past and found the fit/unfit on the basis of earlier examination. 
  • The medical examination will be conducted at various Railway Hospitals under the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board). The final decision regarding the candidate's fitness will be taken by the Railway Medical Board and shall be considered as final.

Physical Standards

  • Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Engineering Services Examination, 2021 as per guidelines are mentioned in official notification of the Rules for the Engineering Services Examination, 2021 which is going to be published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary.

UPSC IES Exam Pattern

The UPSC IES Exam Pattern for both prelims exam and mains exam has been discussed in detail.

A. Prelims

The prelims exam will consist of three two papers namely General Studies & Engineering Aptitude and paper based on engineering discipline. Both these papers will be objective type. Every wrong answer will result in 1/3rd mark deduction. The detailed exam pattern for the prelims is as given below.

B. Mains

The mains exam will consist of two papers based on the concerned stream. These two papers will be descriptive in nature. Each paper will carry 300 marks and the maximum marks will be 600. The duration will be three hours for each paper.
